How to make a 4 year old happy

Most of the sewing I do for the children it is done for Lynn because it is easy to make a quick skirt or little bag etc. to make a girl happy!

But poor boy really wanted something for himself to be sewn too and he sure new what he needed!

A BATMAN CAPE

of course

So I spent 2 cups of coffee searching the internet to find a logo to print out- with no luck but I found this instruction to draw it myself.

And then I started the making and I would like to share it here with you as my first

TUTORIAL!

What you will need:

-Sewing machine and thread
-Scissor
-Pins
-Measuring tape
-Black felt
-Steam-a-Seam or equal
-Felt pen
-Computer,Internet ;)
-Button or Velcro
-A piece of fabric
Min. about 100cm with and at least 70cm long for a small 4 year old.

( you will have to adjust this measurements depending on the size of your super hero....So you need
-a model too)

Start with
hemming the sides of the fabric.
Me as a bit lazy, just zigzagged all the way round..

Then copy your artwork on to the Steam-a Seam paper which then, iron on a piece of black felt.
D0n`t do it like me ; iron a corner of the paper on to your ironing board unless you want to change your board cover anyway..;)!

After this, cut out the Batman sign and iron it on to the fabric in the upper half of the fabric piece.

Then you have to gather the top end of the fabric. The smaller your heroes neck is, the more you have to gather until you have the desired width.

It should look something like this now...

Using the rest of the felt cut a piece of 5 cm in width to make the binding for the collar.
The length will, again, depend on the size of your model + 10-15 cm for the closure strip.

Now fold the strip in half lenghthwise press well and "sandwich" the gathering with it leaving the surplus overhang on one side. Pin well in place and sew it on.

For the closure I used self adhesive Velcro dots.

At the end, for security reasons during the flights I attached some handles made out of thin felt strips sewed on to the sides of the cape!

Now we have a happy little youngster who is ready for new adventures and for take off !!

Don`t forget to warn your pets and neighbour and perhaps store away your beloved vases and chinaware but then have fun with your boy!!

...and after!

( You do hear drum rolls and fanfares here of course...no?
Olympic games 2026, we are preparing...;) )

Back home I made the two February blocks for the Quilting Bee.
Maria asked to make a disappearing nine patch pattern.

She selected different Christmas themed fabric to make a nice quilt for the next season.

Have a good week-end!

P.S.: I made two potholders out of the started granny squares. We were in need of some up in the hut.

Impressions of France

The first thing after arriving at the family`s home is always heading to the stables to say hello to the horses and donkeys.

And as soon as possible making the first ride.

Cookie the girl donkey had a baby 3 month ago witch she did`t adopt. So they had to feed him ever since and it was sooo much fun and too cute to see the kids taking over this job during our stay.

Early morning visit to say hello...

...only to go for an other ride through the vines as soon as possible!

A visit in the nearby village St. Emilion where one of the most famous Bordeaux wines are growing.
(Did I mention that my in-law`s are living near Bordeaux...)

Hehe I now, I am a lucky girl never running short of good Bordeaux wine..;))

A trip to the Atlantic coast.

The weather was still warm enough to go for a swim and except for a few surfers we had the endless beach almost for our self.

Then a visit to Cap Ferret to taste some fresh oysters and enjoy the beautiful landscape and villages there.

Back from the sea we had a few other sunny and warm days...

...before we had to go back home...

...again....

Au revoir et a bientot la belle vie...

....because here its log fire-and-snuggling-up weather already!

On a Saturday

We went to the zoo, had a nice time but forgot the camera...
Back home the children were tired and alowed to watch a DVD.
They watch TV only twice a week so it is a special and always very quiet time witch gave me the possibility to start at last the quilting on my Giant-nine-patch-pic-nic-quilt!

Uff I really have to learn to breath during freemotion quilting!!
But it so much fun and and now is getting easier...

Happy Weekend

Unexpected vacation

You all know about the economical situation all around the world. In the enterprise where my husband is working they are on short labour since April this year. Things did not get better since and so the management decided to close down business for the whole month of July...

So there we were with a looot of time to-and a bit less of money to spend!

And then our neighbour suggested we could take their caravan and head off...wow!!

And we did it.

I changed a shift in the hospital and in less than 24 hours we had packed and were on the road to here.

And then we went in the mountains and the temperature changed, verrry much!

There was snow falling down to 1500m. !!

But the weather was fine enough to make some nice walks.

Enjoying stunning views.

In this area most of the houses are beautifully painted.

But for now, there is laundry and gardening time around here, then my scheduled shift has to be catch ed up but i really hope to find a tiny little bit of crafting time here and there. I had time to make many many plans for many many projects...
...Including a
GIVEAWAY
I was thinking about since a little while.
So stay tuned
